Raku

My favourite Raku outcome using a mix of a copper based glaze layered with a white crackle creating a raw, metallic surface.

Experimental Moon Jar made during the first term, a challenge designed to test my confidence with a project that was probably beyond my experience level at the time. Glazed as part of my raku induction, I remain pleased with the outcome.

An experiment inspired by traditional tea bowls exploring different foot forms, glazing and firing techniques.
Ocean

I made this as part of a group project exploring ideas regarding a sustainable future. It is designed to be a plastic bag caddy, a domestic reminder of the impact of consumption on the environment.

The use of otherwise waste glazes layered on a test piece to explore depth and compatibility. This resulted in some interesting movement and the appearance of warm tones where it broke over the edges of the piece.

Each scale is bordered by a warm band, giving the deep blues a sense of depth and fluidity.

Glaze exploration

A range of glaze tests from a first-year project exploring form, glaze variation and the use of locally sourced wild clay. Most pieces were reduction fired to 1280°C.
Multi-disciplinary work

Degree work that moves beyond ceramics, engaging with a wider range of materials and media. A Japanese punch bound flip book, exploring how peace can be found in the process.

Photographing the use of my university’s Leach kick wheel, a process that creates harmony between clay and body.
